Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~A perfect ending to a perfect day~

Written by Sue, Sturday, Nov. 5, 2011                                 Sunny, windy, fall day, temps. 50's
I am a little late with my Thankful post! It is Saturday and we are kind of  lay back today. This is a followup on yesterday's post, as I have lots of Thankfulness in my day.

While I was out planting the pansies, Mr. P was gathering  leaves, with his leaf raker, he, riding, me, walking.~smile~ He empties them near the edge of the garden, and then we burn them, to make potash.

which is very good and needful for our soil. Oh! he explained everything to me last night, but I won't bore you with the details., as I have a hard enough time trying to make my post  shorter. ~lol~

He knows I like an outdoor fire,

So he called from across the way, and asked if I would like to make a campfire. He made three fires, eventually the ashes will be spread across the garden.

Before  he could turn his hat  around I ran in the house, and came out with this... roast beef sandwiches with homemade Italian tomato soup., He has coffee, I had, Candy Cane Lane tea, yum!!
We ate, we talked,we played...Look at him and Lucy... My husband has the strongest arms and his hands are large from working with them all his life. He often tells me stories of his early childhood.... They heated their house with wood, and when he was a young boy it was his job to get up early before everyone else to build the fire.
~Lucy testing dh's strength. They are truly bosom buddies~
The guys and girls just have to get in on the action too. Talk about trying to be alone for a romantic campfire, you can forget about it here at the farm.~grinning~ Can you see our ducks on the pond?  They were eyeing us too and later joined.
For today... I am thankful for"the perfect ending to a perfect day"
As I was walking away I looked up and saw the moon looking down, making it even more special!
Giving thanks for you too,
Hugs,
Sue
Psalms 118:24~ This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Sounds like a great day! Lunch looks perfect, too!

Can you believe we have to pay to get rid of our leaves? We haven't been able to burn them for years. We have oaks, so they don't compost well. We do as much as we can, but there are just too many.
I always though God should have made leaves disintegrate when they hit the ground, but He didn't ask me! ;)

When we lived in Northern NJ we had leaves, leaves and then more leaves. Seems like all we were doing was raking! Well, fast forward 8 years and we have NOT raked a single leaf since moving to PA. That's only because we live in a wind tunnel! Everything blows away! The fire looks really nice to sit beside and enjoy your yummy-looking meal!!! Hope you're having a nice weekend!

When I saw the fire in the little thumbprint on my sidebar, I thought only Sue would think that something blowing up was the end of a perfect day. Ha! See where my mind goes. You are blessed to be able to have a fire...we'd be doused so fast by the local fire department. No one can build a fire without a permit and then only for specific reasons. Maybe potash would count for one of them. Anyway, I miss a fire in the evening out of doors and the smell of the leaves burning. Nothing like it. This post took me back. (Now as for all this competition for your beloved's affection...you're going to have to do something about it!)

Hi Sue, Loved reading about this-it reminds me of the fires my dad used to have when I was little. He also burned all the paper trash and composted the rest. We aren't in the country so couldn't do it here. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful end to your day.
Hugs, Noreen

I loved your "end of a perfect day!" from the fire, to the delicious meal, to the fur/feathered friends, and finally to the handsome hubby of yours. How I'd love to sit out there and enjoy that fire too.

I have been on a quest ever since I saw Vee's post yesterday with the tea she had. Now this one you mentioned sounds just wonderful too. I can't find either one! I guess the stores out here don't carry them but I am going to keep looking, haha.

Enjoy the rest of your day Sue, and may your Sunday be just as sweet! HUGS!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog.
Your husband seems like a special man indeed. Your writing about him makes me think he must be a lot like my dad was.
Also I didn't realize that the ash from the fire would be good on the garden. Explains why my dad always burned the leaves in the garden and emptied the wood stove ash there too. Maybe I should rake the last few up and have a little fire in my garden too.

you made me miss my dh tonight, he has gone away on a hunting trip for two weeks. I saw that same moon the other night and it looked like somone had drawn a line right down the middle of it and cut it right in half. It is funny how our farm animals are so currious about what is going on around them. Im having a new chicken house built and you should see everyone checking it out, even the horses. I wished I had my camera one day, Boogie stuck his head through the whole that is for a window and stole an apple from one of the workers....it was funny. The girls are really funny, checking out the new house and their new chicken door. Checking out the tools. I love watching the animals. Sometimes its fun to watch people too! LOL

I especially loved the last picture of the moon. Mary and I were outside last night taking Mackie out to go potty and Mary pointed to the moon and said, "Mom, look at the beatuiful moon". It was so clear and so bright. Eventhough we are thousands of miles apart we still look at the same moon:)

Such a fun thing to do outside - something we don't do nearly enough!

Hello Friend,

I love pansies. I love camp fires, and even better with food of course :o) . What special moments you and Mr. P. have.

I'm in the mood now to throw some firewood into the fireplace. It's getting cool here in the evenings.

Love the pictures as always.
Praying many blessings for you~
