Written by Sue, Sunday, Dec.11, 2011 a very beautiful, cold, sunny, Sabbath, temps. 50's
This season as I placed my manger scenes about our home, even though they have a humble look about them,
they do not portray what a real stable looks like.... We have been busy with our ewes as they give birth to new lambs (so looking forward to sharing our new babies, we have five so far.) I am always so happy with new lambs for Christmas., because it is at this time that we celebrate the birth of the real "Lamb of God", Jesus, our Savior....
What does a real stable look, smell, and feel like? First it is a very cold and drafty place, It has wood beams that are rough, and have splinters in them, and It has the smell of all kinds of animals, and there is always the smell of fresh hay, and then you have old hay that animals have eliminated on. This is not the place one would choose to give birth to a baby. The most humblest of beginnings, but God chose such a place for the "Savior of the world to be born."
I keep the manger scenes out where I can see them as I go about my daily work, reminding myself of what this season is really about.
And as I do, from time to time I stop and really study them, wondering what each was thinking, especially Mary....
Here was a very young girl in her early teens, about to give birth to a baby, in a cold, dirty, and smelly stable . I can only imagine how very afraid she was, I know I was. She had no one physically but her very inexperienced husband to help her. Me I was in a very clean hospital, with a doctor and nurses, a very nervous husband, and mother in the waiting room, (way back then husband weren't allowed in the delivery room.)
But I truly believe that all that was forgotten, the birth pains, conditions of the stable when she and her first born looked into each other's eyes. Oh! You never forget the first time you meet, and look into your child's face, and they look into yours, and your eyes meet....I imagine her mind went back to nine months before when a visit from the angel Gabriel told her of what was to happen to her.
Luke1:28-38..... verse 35~ And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Verse 37~ "For with God nothing is impossible."
I am so thankful for my...
which is in "Jesus, my Savior"John 3:16 ~:For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
