Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~A conversation with a lady~

Written by Sue, Tuesday, May,15, 2012      Sunny, with thunderstorms in the afternoon, 80's temps.
While I was picking my English Peas yesterday I asked this lady if she had a nice Mother's Day with her family, as I know all of you did too! After a few niceties, I thanked her for all of her hard work in keeping the garden free of bad bugs, I also wanted to know if she knew who was pecking my strawberries, as most of her days are spent in the garden?

After a little fluttering, and hem hawing

she said she didn't want to be a tattle tale, so she  took me over to one of the plants and showed me this,

and without another word  she flew so elegantly away, but not before thanking me for allowing her to over winter in our attic, and for not using pesticides in our garden.

AH! HA! here is the culprit... Don't put on that innocent act with me, fella! I am on to you.

and do you think he would peck the small ones, oh know he likes the big juicy ones...

Oh well, just another day on the farm, truth is there is such an abundance of strawberries this year, so I don't mind sharing, I just don't want him to make a habit of this. ~smile~..
This is what I gathered yesterday from the garden.
I am happy to say, these yielded 8 canned pints of peas,  8 bags of strawberries in the freezer, and 5 pints of strawberry jam,. Did I mention that I was tired last night? LOL
"Savor" and enjoy your day.
Sue

Oh it has got to be fun to gather in a harvest. Sorry that little white dude there with the tell-tale fluffy white feathers is snitching strawberries. How can he help it, though, really? Good thing I don't live there! Love how you wove this story, Sue. Very clever!

I am so impressed -- and envious of those strawberries! To have enough to share with a rooster -- that has to be a lot of berries:)

Ben is jumping up and down with this post...I wish you could see and hear him. He had just brought up the small bowl of our harvest and was so excited. Then I brought him here and he just giggled and laughed and said..'Oh she is getting things from her garden too!". He loved the ladybug...he had been catching them and watching them. He also laughed about what do you call them if they are a boy. He loved the rooster...ours of course is a picture, not real. LOL

He has now grabbed the garden gloves and headed out the back door to our little patch...he shouted, "I love gardening!!!"

See you have inspired...in more ways than you will ever know...I am so grateful!

I bet you were tired, that is a bunch of work. Lovely produce though.
Yeah, I can tell that rooster was just waiting for you to turn you back so he could attack.
He just has that look on his face.
Have a lovely day, rest if you can. :)

What lovely produce!! I love lady bugs too. Mary gets so excited when she sees one and tells me all sorts of stories about them. We got our first strawberry from our patch yesterday and I was so excited. Things get going a little slower here in the North but they go quick one things start popping:) Have a blessed day dear Sue!

Good morning Sue! I love how you told this story.. : ) And your harvest looks great. You have been a busy gal as always. My grandson Jeffie would just be beside himself with all those strawberries...I always have them on hand when he is going to be over. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Wow! That's a great harvest! The strawberries look amazing. One year, I will have to try growing them.

What a sweet conversation you had with the little lady. I can see how the temptation would be very strong for Mr. Rooster. Your strawberries are beautiful. I am always amazed by how quickly you get your harvest processed.

Loved your chat with the little ladybug! Your strawberries are beautiful and I'd be reluctant to share them with Rooster, too!
Have a wonderful day and don't work too hard!

Hi there, Wow what a harvest-great job Sue. I kept waiting to see a "lady" and what she told you so I giggled when I realized you were talking about a hen.
Have a wonderful day!

Well you will be blessed then, because you're sharing your strawberries with a poor rooster.

(That's a rooster, right? Please do not laugh at me if it's just a chicken. I get enough of that snickering from the farm sister.)

What a fun post. If I were a lady bug, I would chat right back with you.

Sweet post, Sue! And, of course, you are the kind of gal who would share her abundance with the rooster...that makes me smile!

Wishing you a good night's sleep after all your hard work...

Luscious strawberries! Wow, and its just time to plant gardens here in PA. I've just gotten my raised beds together and #3 daughter came over today to help me fill with garden soil. I know its a little late, even for this area, but I am goign to put in a few peas as well and see how they do. Asparagus plants will be here in 3 days! Can't hardly wait! Your garden produce has my digestive juices flowing. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, Sue!
