Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~We lost this battle~

Written by Sue, Wedesday,May2, 2012                    Summer has arrived, humid and hot 90 today, and getting warmer
Had a full day of painting planned for today, but swarming termites had other plans for dh and I, we were happily talking and painting, when both of us began to be bitten by these flying bugs, they began to stick to the wet paint , I called them flying termites. The bites really did sting, we tried to be troopers  by swatting them hoping they would give up, but they became more numerous, we surrendered, and went to the house.  So we decided to run errands  to get more supplies, a bonus was lunch at Panera Bread with Mr P.
I am still picking strawberries, this was yesterdays bounty,

Having a baby that needs lots of attention, keeps us busy too. Which one of these two was enjoying the moment the most, (hint) don't think it was Mr P. We have tried to get Buttercup- Tulip, ( named by Susie and Katie), acclaimated to grazing with the other sheep, but she wants to be with us, everywhere we go, we have bottle fed lambs before , but have never had one that is so attached to us. You should hear Mr P. talking to her, I am beginning to think that might be the reason.
Helping pops with plowing, Lucy is shedding her winter coat, and looks a little ragged like me! ~smile~ I see a visit to the groomers in her near future, especially if temps. stay in the 90's for sure! After I took this photo, I gave her a good brushing and got enough fur for another pooch!
The corn is really growing, and the garlic will be harvested a lot earlier than usual. Between working on painting projects we stay busy planting, and weeding.
Our hanging baskets are really growing., I am looking forward to getting the furniture painted, and my sheer curtains put up!
Only God could make something so beautiful!

This is sweet marjoram , I will be harvesting, and drying it this week. A great  culinary herb, very similar to oregano, but a little sweeter. One use is to combine it with sage  in preparing a turkey breast.

Well that's about all for today, I must get outside and walk before night time catches me. I am trying to become more disciplined in my exercise.
Blessings,
Sue

Oh, Sue, your garden is lovely!!! What a bounty!!! I've gotten tomato and pepper plants in the ground, planted some cucumbers and squash, but we've had no rain, so I'm not going to plant any thing else until it rains.

Have a blessed day!

Oh I do envy your garden! Strawberries are 2 months off here, and yours look so delicious!
We have a deer problem here, they eat everything! I am going to leave salad dressing out there so they can enjoy their dinner more! :)

Hi Sue!

I loved your pictures and thoughts today! I love living on a farm; there is just something about taking care of a garden, feeding a little baby animal, and working in the sunshine that makes a person feel closer to God!!

Hugs,
Barb

Everything seems to love the heat... the plants and the bugs at least. Were they really swarming termites? That sounds awful. Hope that you can get the job accomplished without them tomorrow. Your gardens are so large, it must take a lot of time to weed. That's one chore, I truly loathe. Blessed me...with a small flower garden, it's not so labor intensive.

Wow that is terrible I have seen flying termites but I didn't know they bit. Your garden looks so great and of course I love the lambs. Your strawberries they are so nice.
You flowers in your hanging baskets look great too.
Do you get really tired at night? I was just wondering. :)

Oh the termites sound awful! I'd have run for the house too! The fencing will look great when you have finished your painting!

That baby is sweet - cute name....

I don't blame you for retreating from the termites! Looks like you're going to have a nice corn crop. Good luck with the painting & bug battle!

Carol

Oh I can't wait to show this to Benjamin in the morning. Those strawberries are wonderful...and when do you know when the garlic is ready? I planted those from you and they look wonderful...I am clueless.

I have been painting Benjamin's room...it will be posted. It is western and he informed me that it wasn't a ranch...it was a farm!!

Fun post...sorry about those bites...I pulled out the lavender spray for us...gonna be a buggy season.

Sorry you didn't get to finish your painting today. It is looking great so far! (At least you got a Panera Bread lunch with your honey out of the changed plans! ~grin~)

I always love your tour around the farm...beautiful garden, sweet baby lamb, lovely petunias...there's always something wonderful to see!

I know that comments were off for Sunday's post, but it was inspired! Thank you for sharing this lesson.

Yum! That nice bowl of strawberries really caught my eye! I'll be right over...save me a few.

Your farm and gardens looks so good, I always enjoy seeing what you are doing there. And the little lamb is so adorable!

I hope you get your painting done without further bites!

You busy girl! We usually have some insects like that called 'buffalo gnats' but haven't had them yet this year. It has been an odd year. Beau got his fur brushed and cut yesterday too. I coulda' made 2 more dogs out of what I brushed off him, but don't need more dogs to brush! Don't you hate painting? I hate to do it but love the results. That little lamb is so sweet!
