~Pear tree lane farmhouse~

Would you peek?

Written by Sue, Sunday, June24,2012                           Monday is going to be hot, humid, with afternoon thunderstorms.
If you were given a beautiful cedar chest, and when you opened it found the price tag was left tagged inside, how tempted would you be to look?

I have been receiving some wonderful gifts lately from my younger sister, and am loving each of them!  An amazing thing is these treasures, which she has owned for many years  have never been used! It seems she has decided to simplify her life, and asked if I wanted them. Why of course, I do!! The most amazing thing, is that most of these gifts have been items that I have secretly had on my lifetime wish list.

When I was a young girl, dreaming of one day marrying, I would visit my grandmothers, and saw that my Aunt Jan,had a beautiful hope chest, and secretly wished for one of my very own. But I didn't ask because I knew my parents could not afford one,.... life went on, however I did marry my Prince..... So never give up, here after all these years is my very own hope chest. It is so pretty! I am so thankful to have such a loving, and giving  sister, who didn't know that she was fulfilling a young girls dreams.

Here is another secret wish that she unknowingly fulfilled,...
a Herschede Grandfather clock, it has the most beautiful chimes!

While  we were there  to pick it up she said, "I have had this for over thirty years, and just didn't know how to work it, and now I am wanting to simplify." If you notice, it was placed in my foyer, way before I found the water leak. I was so happy and just had to confess to her that I had wanted one for years! These are just two gifts I have been blessed with. I will share some more later.
2 Corinthians 9: 7~So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.
To all who commented on my post about the water leak, Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement! All equipment has been removed, and we are waiting for the adjuster to return, and then the work really begins.
BTW~ I did see the price tag, there was no way I couldn't as I am planning on using it for my sweaters and or blankets. Nothing sits idle around this farmhouse, not people nor things that work. ~grin~
Enjoy your Monday
Sue
James 1:17~Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

"I have some good news and some bad news".

Written by Sue, Friday, June22, 2012                       Hot, humid, temps. high 90's afternoon thunderstorms.
"Which would you like to hear first?" Familiar words spoken often by Mr P. I always say, "give me the bad news first, because I am counting on the good news being so good that I won't remember the bad." ~smile~
So here is the bad news....
Last Saturday, as I was vacuuming, I noticed the floor by the utility closet was buckling, I opened up and found the floor was wet. Long story, short....Plumber called, leak in the wall found, and since it was Saturday, it could would not be fixed until Monday.... Water was cut off, leak stopped temporarily, and we were stranded  with no water, or so I thought...

This is the foyer, the water damage has reached all the way to the front door.
                                                     ~What a mess~~
~hoses, tubing and electrical cords eveywhere~

Now for the good news....

Dear husband, who can do just about anything, had installed two extra lines off of our water well for watering the flowers, etc...... all just a few feet from the house, and one hooks up to an outdoor shower. Woo hoo!!, "hold on" say what "no hot water", oh! well! at least we will be clean!!

Monday..... Plumbing fixed, insurance company called, paper work started.

Tuesday,.... a restoration company came out to set up machines to try and get water out of the flooring.

~amazing to watch~
 Adjuster comes to see damage.
Better news...
There was no mold nor mildew found, and what a blessing that was, the floors are drying out nicely.

When the men came to set the machines up I was right in the middle of making relish, one of the workers asked me to sell him a jar! He and the other workers went home with several jars of relish and jams., no charge. ~wink~

A real blessing  for me was that the cucumbers for the relish were the last veggies I would be preserving for at least a few weeks, as we don't know what has to be done to bring our oak floor back to what it should be.
Now here is the best news of all..
God loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so!!! 1John 4:11~ Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Psalms 36:5~Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. He is always there for us in all situations!! He has blessed me with  a loving, supportive and encouraging husband. While weathering so many storms of life together, we have learned to lean on our Heavenly Father and each other! We have even joked about how we both are going to miss these "Big, "Loud",   machines. It seems they remind DH of riding in an airplane, to which he likes to sleep, my thought is dh has no problem sleeping anywhere. ~grin~

Enjoy your day,
love,
Sue

Is it true?

Written by Sue, Friday, June 1, 2012                        Partly sunny, afternoon showers, 90 plus temps.
that a "Busy person" is a "Happy person", if so, I must be the happiest person on the planet. ~grin~ A few months ago we started 5 new outside projects and then they increased to 7, I am happy to report that they are 75% completed,I will share soon. Woo Hoo!

Yes, we worked on all 7 at one time, doing a little here and a little there. The only one that I know that is completed is the redoing of my clothesline which I was able to use yesterday. LOL Sleeping under fresh sheets dried and kissed by the sun was a real treat for me last night, I even washed my pillows, you should have seen me sniffing when I went to bed. ~You can tell it doesn't take much to make me happy. ~smile~
BTW I looked out my bathroom window yesterday evening and saw Mr. P. starting number 8. lol Can you find him in this photo?

I have also been busy gathering, canning and freezing vegetables from the garden,
Let's can some yellow squash... after they have been picked and washed
slice to the size you want
pack in hot sterilized jars,  , add 1 tsp. salt to a quart, adding enough warm water to the neck of the jar
remove air bubbles, wipe top of jar, cap with hot lids and  bands (forgot  to take photo), place in pressure canner and process according to canner directions.
Voila~ the strawberry sauce was made later in the day.
While I was waiting for the squash to process, I shelled these peas, washed them and
used one of my favorite appliances, my Food Saver, if you don't have one, adding it to your Christmas, or Wish List you might  enjoy. I also use it when I find nuts, meats,, and anything I use on sale. These English peas have been measured and will be used for making chicken pot pie.
and would you believe I am still picking strawberries. One of the projects we have been working on is redoing this potting shed. It has become so helpful for me to wash the produce after gathering, it saves a lot of work  on my kitchen sink, the water runs out to the herb garden and is perfectly safe because we use no pesticides.

A little encouragement for you... I cannot tell you how much enjoyment and pleasure I get out of growing and preserving produce. Some of the reasons for doing this are,..  it is more economical, much safer (it seems like more often  than not I am reading of all kinds of chemical that are being put in the foods we consume, these are more nutritional because they are fresher. To gather and preserve the squash and peas took exactly 2 1/2 hours from start to finish, that included cleaning the kitchen.  If Sue can do it anyone can. Even if you don't grow your own produce, there are a lot of local markets and farmers who grow them.
Another added benefit is ....jams, pickles, relishes, vinegars, make wonderful gifts. Family and friends will be so impressed!~smile~

We have had the most fruitful strawberry season, so I have been inventing new recipes, this is my new recipe... strawberry ice cream flavored sauce, great to top on ice cream or pancakes, so yummy! (pic. in above photo.)

So would you like to ask me what I am doing today,...... absolutely whatever I want to, I am taking the day off to relax, read, nap, blog, watch some Walton Specials, and Anne of Green Gables, work on updating my blog. WHY? because Mr. P. is working out of town again today, and you know the old saying... "When the cat's away the mice will play". So this mouse is playing big time.... The real reason for the day off is we have a big day of work planned tomorrow, going to clean front porch, place furniture, and plants in and about, plus sheers go up!!! I have been waiting all winter to do this.

I am still "Savoring " moments like these.. every day these guys come by to say "good morning"while I am having devotions on the porch.
The mallards love to show off, it is hard to grab the camera and get great photos, but these will have to do. I feel so sorry for Whitie , as I know he would love to be soaring with them.
Enjoy your weekend,
don't forget to "Savor" moments in your day,
as they are gifts from our Heavenly Father.
Love,
Sue

Psalm 118:24~ This is the day the Lord has made: we will rejoice and be glad it.
