Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

Doing a little clean-up

Written by Sue, Tuesday, September 5, 2017                  Sunny, hot, humid, 90's
Do you enjoy live plants, I do, and have placed them all around my home, these plants are very beneficial to cleaning the air in our homes, not to mention the beauty they bring.
Here they are at the plant hospital!~wink~
Once a year , I gather all my houseplants to trim them, and repot those that need it! It is a little time consuming but so worth it.

Most times I have to buy new pots, because I usually have a few that I am rooting in glass jars or vases, so easy peasy, make a cut on a branch, place in water, in a few weeks they will be ready to transplant! Most of my plants are related, ~smile~ I have been doing this for years, saves money, plus it is so rewarding, so don't be shy about rooting,

I cover the bottom of the planters with rocks to help with drainage, add soil and plant

This plant has been newly planted, the leaves have a dull look, I have a solution for that, taught to me many years ago by my Mom.

I take a cotton ball, paper towel or any cloth, dip in oil, I use coconut oil, and precede to wipe the leaves while holding them in hand. What a great difference! I could by a commercial shine, but this is cheaper and in my pantry!

To add a little pizazz for fall I add a fall pick. Potted plants also make wonderful gifts, for a new mom, a patient in a nursing facility or hospital, or just to brighten someones day!

Not a whole lot going on around the farmhouse this week, we are in between produce, and waiting on the weather to change before tackling two major projects! I am really enjoying my fall decorations,
just waiting for the pumpkins, and apples to come in, I will soon be going to the State Farmers Market to check them out.
Getting back to blogging regularly is certainly a lot harder than what I thought it would be, Instagram seems to get in the way~smile~ But my heart remains here on my blog.
Blessings,
Sue

Hi Sue!

I love all your plants! I only have one plant in my home...I just don't have great light for them. When I was younger, I had lots of beautiful plants...I had better light. Thank you for the coconut oil tip, I used to polish mine with mayonnaise, it worked beautifly as well. I think I will try putting plants in my house again, you've inspired me!

Hugs,
Barb

Sue, you make it look so easy and your plants look so friendly!! Alas, I have no plants because my thumb is totally black. I am the kiss of death to anything green.

I hear you about regular blogging. The more you don't, the harder it is to do. But, like you, I keep plugging away. I am glad that you are!

Enjoy your little lull on the farm!

Your plants are soo beautiful! I can tell you I have tried and tried and TRIED because I soo love a plant in the house, but I just eventually end up killing whatever I have. My mom was really talented in this area and she TRIED to tutor me on it, but even that didn't work, lol. I think I eventually over water thinking I am under watering, lol. Anyway, I do love yours. I have been struggling with blogging too. It's just soo much quicker to Instagram, but like you I soo prefer this. If I get up a couple a week I am will be pleased. Enjoy the rest of your week Sue!

Like you, I've been rooting plants for years...my mom taught me that..I keep beautiful ivies all the time because when they start growing really large, I cut off a few runners, put in water and then pots when roots form. Love doing that...I have a plant (no clue as to the name) that one of my friends gave me a cutting from her Grandmother's plant...in turn, I've started 4 others for friends and now daughter wants one..:)
I have a dining room that could easily be called a GREENhouse..lots of windows with tons of natural light coming in and I have really good luck growing plants. We also have a small green house behind our house and all the summer flowering plants go into it...and it's about time to move them inside, I think.

You sure do have a lot of plants. I have only one in the house at this time but I would like to have more. Thanks for the tip for the leaves, I'm going to shine mine up.

That's a lot of plants and you are taking care of them well. I find it so much easier for projects in cooler seasons. Hope you are having a good week.
