~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

These are perennial sunflowers, they multiply so fast, and are very dependable.
Angels trumpet, a very stunning bloom,
A Sunflower, one of my favorite flowers,
An okra blossom, oh so pretty!

"Thank you Vee, for always being such a gracious hostess, I posted these blooms especially for you as I know yellow is your favorite color."

~A conversation with a lady~

Written by Sue, Tuesday, May,15, 2012      Sunny, with thunderstorms in the afternoon, 80's temps.
While I was picking my English Peas yesterday I asked this lady if she had a nice Mother's Day with her family, as I know all of you did too! After a few niceties, I thanked her for all of her hard work in keeping the garden free of bad bugs, I also wanted to know if she knew who was pecking my strawberries, as most of her days are spent in the garden?

After a little fluttering, and hem hawing

she said she didn't want to be a tattle tale, so she  took me over to one of the plants and showed me this,

and without another word  she flew so elegantly away, but not before thanking me for allowing her to over winter in our attic, and for not using pesticides in our garden.

AH! HA! here is the culprit... Don't put on that innocent act with me, fella! I am on to you.

and do you think he would peck the small ones, oh know he likes the big juicy ones...

Oh well, just another day on the farm, truth is there is such an abundance of strawberries this year, so I don't mind sharing, I just don't want him to make a habit of this. ~smile~..
This is what I gathered yesterday from the garden.
I am happy to say, these yielded 8 canned pints of peas,  8 bags of strawberries in the freezer, and 5 pints of strawberry jam,. Did I mention that I was tired last night? LOL
"Savor" and enjoy your day.

~Before and After~

Written by Sue, Sunday, May 6, 2012                               it has become sunny and warmer. high 70's
A few months ago, dh went to an estate auction, looking for some farm equipment, instead he came back with two of these, look at the seat, the chair pad evidently had rubber backing and it had been there so long that it was stuck to the chair. What a mess I had,
I scraped and scraped, and scraped some more, and then I sanded and sanded and sanded some more, and then....

I painted and painted and painted some more, quite a difference isn't it. I was so pleased at how they both turned out, sorry I didn't get a picture of both finished rockers. What they need now are some pretty new pillows.
He also bought an old oak swing... I hope to be working this week on the swing. We are going to replace the chains too.  We have so many projects going at once, it's a wonder we get anything completed.~grin~ While at this auction he managed to pick up a few more items.... a coffee pot, and old AT makeup case that needs a lot of cleaning., hmmmm, maybe by Christmas! I almost forgot, he paid $15.00 for these antique rockers, not bad, Ehh!

You know what they say about the Energy Bunny, the one that keeps right on going, well our strawberries, keep right on giving and giving, they are in their peak season and that keeps me busy too. This is what I picked Saturday....

Thanks for stopping by, you are always so welcome, enjoy your week.
Blessings,
Sue

~We lost this battle~

Written by Sue, Wedesday,May2, 2012                    Summer has arrived, humid and hot 90 today, and getting warmer
Had a full day of painting planned for today, but swarming termites had other plans for dh and I, we were happily talking and painting, when both of us began to be bitten by these flying bugs, they began to stick to the wet paint , I called them flying termites. The bites really did sting, we tried to be troopers  by swatting them hoping they would give up, but they became more numerous, we surrendered, and went to the house.  So we decided to run errands  to get more supplies, a bonus was lunch at Panera Bread with Mr P.
I am still picking strawberries, this was yesterdays bounty,

Having a baby that needs lots of attention, keeps us busy too. Which one of these two was enjoying the moment the most, (hint) don't think it was Mr P. We have tried to get Buttercup- Tulip, ( named by Susie and Katie), acclaimated to grazing with the other sheep, but she wants to be with us, everywhere we go, we have bottle fed lambs before , but have never had one that is so attached to us. You should hear Mr P. talking to her, I am beginning to think that might be the reason.
Helping pops with plowing, Lucy is shedding her winter coat, and looks a little ragged like me! ~smile~ I see a visit to the groomers in her near future, especially if temps. stay in the 90's for sure! After I took this photo, I gave her a good brushing and got enough fur for another pooch!
The corn is really growing, and the garlic will be harvested a lot earlier than usual. Between working on painting projects we stay busy planting, and weeding.
Our hanging baskets are really growing., I am looking forward to getting the furniture painted, and my sheer curtains put up!
Only God could make something so beautiful!

This is sweet marjoram , I will be harvesting, and drying it this week. A great  culinary herb, very similar to oregano, but a little sweeter. One use is to combine it with sage  in preparing a turkey breast.

Well that's about all for today, I must get outside and walk before night time catches me. I am trying to become more disciplined in my exercise.
Blessings,
Sue
