Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~One down and many to go~

Written by Sue, Wednesday,July 11, 2012                      cloudy, rain, humid & muggy, temps. high 80's
A few weeks ago, dh and I thought we would complete some projects we had been working on, it seems we were working forever, one was the fenced in garden beside the house.

This is a projects we started last year, and before we could complete it we found ourselves going to several other projects! I bet you don't do things like this, now do you?
I am happy to report that we have finally finished it, but we have been so busy with other projects that we haven't taken much time to plant. I do have some tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplant, and cukes here. Did I just say we haven't planted, well, it sure sounds like we did. I think what I meant was we didn't fill the garden up, There, now that sounds better.

After we  disassembled the fence, scrape, painted it, and put back in place, we then repaired the beds as best as we could ,and filled them with new soil. We wanted to remove the old beds and raise them ,but our budget wouldn't let us, maybe next year, just maybe.~grin~
The next task was the most tiring, we laid plastic lining in walkway, and ordered, 2 tons,(now lets do some math here, that equals 4,000 lbs.) of peat rock, to which they dumped in the driveway. Now how do you suppose it got from the driveway to here.

 hmmmm! let's see....

This is the strongest, smartest, and sweetest man in the whole world! I do treasure his love and friendship. He hauled the rocks, I spread them with a shovel and rake! Really!!! I did, I pinky promise, all this was done when we were having record breaking temps. needless to say we were a little tired, Lucy was just as tired as she was supervising!
Excuse me while I take a bow! ~smile~

We worked until the sun went down and the  moon was visible, and I might add beautiful!
Here is the end result of a lot of toil and sweat! As you can see the beds are only partially filled with plants, that's okay, we plan to plant a fall crop. This truly was a labor of love!
We have other projects completed that I will show soon, but have had to put other planned projects on hold, due to the mishap with the leak in our wall. It seems that all of our downstairs' wood floors have got to be sanded, and refinished, this means emptying and packing most of our things downstairs. We bought boxes yesterday and have started packing.

Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit, and for taking the time to leave me such sweet notes.
Blessings,
Sue

What a pretty garden spot, so smart to surround the beds with rocks. We turned our little garden spot back to lawn last summer, even with watering we got very little harvest. I'll enjoy watching your garden grow since I don't have one of my own. : )

Carol

What a tidy, beautiful garden. Gee, Sue. I just spread straw. Those pebbles look fantastic. But then, your entire home and garden, and yard look amazing!

Hi there, Wow that is a lot of work; resembles what my oldest daughter did at their place, of course they are in their 30's and have lots of kids to help. I can't imagine doing it now. My hubby refuses to do any work around here, mostly in the yard because he doesn't like the house/yard and wants to move to our forever home.
Thanks for sharing. Your yard looks lovely.
Hugs, Noreen

I honestly know I just couldn't do it anymore...at least until I do my knees..I've enjoyed my visit here as always. Mom is napping and it is a good time to pop around. Hope you had a good day....HUGS

I so admire your garden, even had my honey take a look so that one day when we have a place of our own he could help me build one too.

Sue, your home is gorgeous, inside and out! Your new and improved garden area is wonderful, and represents a lot of hard work on the part of you and Mr. P. I applaud you for raking and spreading all those rocks in the awful heat and humidity! I'm afraid I would have wimped out. No, I know I would have!

I was looking at the list of projects in your sidebar...and you have been quite the busy bees. When you have a home, the projects never end, do they? We just thank the Lord for His gifts, and for the health and strength to keep up with it all.

And...wow...what a task that must be to have to move everything off of your hard wood floors. Groan. Your sweet attitude is such a blessing to me, as I never hear you complain. Instead you are savoring the moments, the good and the "challenging"!

(Thanks for your visits over at my blog...you are always welcome to come and chat. ~smile~)

Hugs,
Cheryl

It looks lovely, I bet you were so tired that night. Very nice. I would love to do that to my garden someday. I hope you rest now. I had to laugh when you said you didn't plant much this year.

Your garden is beautiful -- I love that fence! And I really love how well you and your husband work together, that is such an encouragement to see.

Now that is a beautiful garden area! Certainly will be worth all the labor. On a side note, I felt encouraged by your comment on the blog - that your extreme hot dry weather has yielded some rain. Hoping and praying it will happen any day (soon) here. Blessings to you and yours, and thanks for sharing your lovely project with us! -Tammy

WOW~ Sue, that garden is heavenly! Nothing I ever do turns out that neat... can I borrow your Hubby for a few days? *haha* (He would most definitely run away if he saw how sad my garden looks!)
By the way, Lucy even looks tired... you didn't put her to work too, did you? *giggle*

You are entitled to take a bow after your hard work! I am especially impressed that all of this was accomplished during this high heat. Well done.
Your new garden is beautiful and so well thought out. The picket fence surrounding it is charming.
Good luck with your indoor project. That sounds like another big job.

Oh my goodness Sue, what a beatiful and amazing project. Your graden area is so pretty! Some day Rich and I would love to do this with our yard. We want to get rid of most of the grass and raise flowers and veggies. You and your husband are just so amazing :)

Good morning, Sue!

That sure is one very lovely garden spot! Imagine how abundant it will become! I like the patriotic shirt your husband is wearing as he works on this project.

So nice visiting :)

It's exactly like the little fantasy garden that lives in my head. I have no place for one like that because I live under a piney stick forest. I love it. WAY TO GO!

I'm sorry about the whole resanding issue, though, and hope that that mammoth task is a thing of the past soon.

It's wonderful, Sue!
You and Mr P make such a great team in the garden.
I love the white fence and the pebbles - it's all so pretty as well as practical.
Just like you, lol!!

I'm sorry to hear that your floors must be repolished.
Hope the weather is not too hot for all that extra workload.

Thanks so much for your prayers for me - I'm on the mend now, praise God!
I so appreciate your thoughtfulness, dear Sue.
You are a very special sister in Christ!!

Lots of love to you..Trish xx

PS. I've adopted you - we take all the redheads we can get in our family, lol!
I recently heard that natural redheads are expected to be extinct by 2070.
We are a rare breed ;-D
