~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~Where There Is a Will ,There Is a Way~

Written by Sue, Wednesday June 3, 2020   sunny, hot, humid, 90's

So they say... and I proved it true....
Like most folks, coffee is the first thing I look for in the morning, it was beginning to look a little bleak this past week, as my percolator just plain killed over, I tried everything to bring it back, but to no avail. So I put my noodle together, and here is what I came up with! Hmmm works pretty well, not as good but it will have to do until I get my new one.
We have been on semi lockdown, dh and I have only made necessary trips, and now after looters, and rioters completely destroyed a Wal-Mart and other stores at the Mall, and everything closed down, I will be continuing making coffee this way. I like my coffee Hot! so I heat my creamer too!😱

Ahh! Black Gold!

So how is your week going? As usual I am busy canning, food, and busy in the garden. Here are potatoes that were planted March 15, ready for harvesting! When the plants begin to turn yellow and die, the potatoes are ready, we dug them, and I canned them Saturday and finished yesterday.

This is what the bed looked liked when we had finished digging the taters, messy huh! but not for long.

This is what the bed looked like 45 mins. later, see the plants in the walkway, I had plans for them.

These are zinnias, I transplanted  from the walkway, they had volunteered from last seasons, pretty cheap planting  I would say. This is what it looked like, 2 hrs. later, better, right? Tomorrow I will plant more flowers, probably marigolds, I am going to plant flowers to cut.
Here is some more  results of this weeks work. I had 28 quarts, with a few left over to eat fresh! I have now checked potatoes off my list.

I find time in the garden is well spent, I get sunshine, exercise, fresh air, quiet time to talk to my heavenly Father, He always has a listening Ear!, And He cares about what I care about. We are experiencing troublesome times, here is one thing for sure, our heavenly Father knows what is happening, he never sleeps.

Isaiah26:3~ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed upon You, because he trust in You.
Love,
Sue

What a beautiful crop of potatoes! I have never eaten canned potatoes. Our potatoes, not harvested until September, made their way to the vegetable room in the cellar.

You are ingenious to think of a way to have your coffee. I'm sorry that your coffeemaker croaked.

Did you say that your local Wal*Mart was destroyed by looters? The mall, too?! Yikes. I am sick that this has come anywhere near you. There is a more or less peaceable group protesting about ten miles away and a less than peaceable group protesting in Portland.

Stay safe and peaceful at home enjoying those cups of coffee with warmed cream.

So comforting to know our God is in control of everything. Good for you for figuring out a way to get that morning cup of java! Things are so frustrating right in the world. Makes me yearn for the Lord's return. I'm always impressed with your work ethic when it comes to farming and gardening. You accomplish a lot in a day!! Happy June to you.

That's a great crop of potatoes. My oldest daughter cans a lot of things too. Have you thought of ordering your new coffee pot from Amazon? You would received in just a few days. However, that's quite the creative solution to making your coffee. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

Hi Sue~

Gorgeous potatoes! Here in Idaho, the potatoes won't be ready until at least October...some sooner, but never until fall. Canning potatoes is such a wonderful thing to do. In the crazy times we are living in, it's good to can and preserve everything we can. I love Zinnias an Marigolds, a perfect compliment to any garden!

My husbands father used to make coffee in a pot without the peculator. He would put the coffee right in the water, bring it to a boil and simmer for a few minutes. Then, he would pour just a small amount of cold water in the pot so the grounds would sink to the bottom...it was delicious! You're way looks like it works just fine though!

Be safe, so many scary things all around us these days, so sad.

Hugs and Love,
Barb

Dear Sue, So glad to catch up on your garden, what a wonderful harvest of potatoes. Your weather looks so nice too. It has been such a troublesome time in our history. We are able to spend time with our family and grands and that makes life so much better. It is so sad to see what's going on in our country.
Your blog always cheers my heart.
Sending love and prayers.

You had a beautiful day and wow all that bottling, I wouldn't know where to start. We haven't grown potatoes this year as we had blight last year, but plenty of salads, tomatoes and other veg. And out in the sunshine is wonderful, it's a blessing to have a garden in these troubled times.

Sue, your garden & potatoes are beautiful! I hope to grow potatoes this season (I'm late in the game.) I thought of you when I read about the rioters in your area and prayed you'd be safe. I'm glad you are. Maybe you could order a coffee pot online from Amazon? xo Gina

oh, I love getting a peak into your world, Sue! And I always love hearing about your garden and what you've been canning. Here in South Africa Winter is just around the corner. My garden is slowing down, but I am keeping beds well manured and making sure the crops I do have growing are kept weed free. I agree, time spent in the garden is so wonderful...I love soaking up some sunshine and being quiet and praying. May the week ahead be a lovely one...sending hugs your way!
Oh, and I really hope you get a new coffee percolator soon...coffee is my favourite way to start the day too, so I understand how important it is to have a good cup to wake up to! {{smiles}}

Such troublesome times. I am sorry that there is looting near you. I am saying a prayer for you and your community right now. The very best news is that God is God, He is in control, and He has provided a way for us through Jesus!

As a fellow coffee lover, I applaud your noble efforts to make an acceptable cup of your "black gold"!

Hi Sue,
Like you makeshift coffee maker..........necessity is the Mother of invention....for sure!
Love that.....
Had not heard about the riots in N.C.....they had some in Charleston SC where my Daughter
lives in the downtown area. So sad that people take advantage of those that are trying to
protest peacefully and turn the whole point upside down.
It is wonderful to know the Lord during these crazy times, isn't it. Our ever present help
in times of trouble. Saw all your canning you did....awesome and bet that jelly is yummy.

Take care sweet lady,
Love and Blessings, Nellie
