~Labor Day happenings~

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend, ours was  relaxing with our new book, and keeping an eye on hurricane Dorian. The uncertainty of where it will go  and when has most folks on edge. Tomorrow will be spent around here making preparation, just in case. Thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected so far.

After lunch  we went to Tractor Supply for some mineral blocks for the sheep and donkeys, while there I was drawn to the sound of peep, peep, peep, just couldn't resist these sweet guys, they were on sale for $1.00 each, reg. $5.69. It took a little convincing (please,please, while batting my eye lashes) before Mr P. okayed it. Now, who could resist these pretty faces.

After getting them settled in their new home,

 Dh and I went inside finished our book, Last of The Saddle Tramps. I can't say enough of how much Mr P. and I enjoyed this book, we learned so much about the human spirit, the bond between a woman and her animals, aka her companions, and of how basically helpful and caring people were for each other and their love of animals. She chose to call the circumstances on this trip,foreordained, I am inclined to agree with her.I f you want to know what four out of five means you will have to read the book.😘😘😘

Mesannie called herself, a Saddle Tramp, but we have chosen to call her a "Lady" in every sense of the word.

So much more to tell, but I won't spoil it for anyone who chooses to read it. Vee, can recommend a book for me any day.

"A little of this, a lot of that"

Do you like to give gifts, or receive gifts? I like to do both. Today I thought I would show a few gifts I received for Christmas.

This past weekend my sister and her Dh came for a visit, we always exchange our gifts after Christmas, it gives us something to look forward too in the cold month of January! It has become a tradition.
Years ago, I wanted a fine china Christmas set, when Sister found out she and her husband began giving us a five piece place setting at Christmas.

I love birds, so I chose this pattern by Lenox. I started out with plans for an eight place setting, but Mary wanted me to have service for 12, this setting is now my 11th! Thank you Steve and Mary!

One of the most useful and appreciated gifts was from Mr P. This watch motivates me to get up and get moving, I have set my goal of 10,000 steps each day, some days I make it and some days I don't. ~wink~Today I began at 9:49 a.m.

It's 4 p.m. this is how many steps I have taken today, do you think I will make it to 10,000?~wink~

Gift giving has been going on since the beginning of time, but the most precious gift ever given to mankind, was the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ! To which I am so thankful, it is eternal!

Not a lot going on around the farmhouse, the ewes are finishing up with lambing, they, and the donkeys decided today would be good day for sunning, I agreed.

Which gave me the idea too go and sit by the pond for some sunning of my own, there is something about water that is so soothing to the mind and soul, this is a place I come to be renewed, many important decisions have been made around this old pond.

 Tom is beginning to strut around the barnyard, the girls think he is silly, but handsome.

The hens are laying regularly, there is nothing better than fresh eggs from your own hens.

I see the bluebirds checking out the new birdhouse DH received for Christmas, all of these happenings assure me that spring is not far away! I hope you are having a great week!

A little of this, and a little of that.

How often do you have dreams? It seems I have been having dreams more often these days. They have been really sweet dreams, in my dreams I have been having some wonderful meetings with old acquaintances, with actual conversations, so real that I wake smiling, only to wish that they had actually happened. ~smile~This has nothing to do with my post today, I was just wondering. I guess I must be getting old.~wink~

What an absolutely beautiful fall day we have had today, I worked in the green house, potting more pansies, I'll show later this week where they went, you might be surprised.~wink~

Building this green house for me was one of the nicest things Mr P has done. I love being out here next to the chicken coop,listening to the different sounds the chickens, turkeys, and guineas make.I guess you might say I am a true blue COUNTRY GIRL.

I decided it was time to start my exercise program of walking again, I walked 2 miles today and took some photos.
Tom was out strutting too.

I went by to see the donkeys, they always come running looking for treats.

This is my white, blue eyed baby, our other donkeys are brown with brown eyes.

While I was out walking Mr P. was getting the garden ready to plant strawberries, tomorrow, we, (DH and I) will plant 400 plants. I Just love my  farm boy on a tractor. Notice our trees are still green with a few hints of fall.

I am dreaming of these in a few months.

~Busy Day~

Busy day here at the farm, this little girl was born, but has a problem...

Her mother doesn't want to nurse her, so Mr P and I have once again become parents, every two hours she has to be fed. We have bottle fed kid goats, lambs, but never a foal! 

Thanks to our friend Brown, for coming over to help!

So sweet!! I warmed the blanket for her and she is sleeping

She is so weak, we don't know how things will go! Praying for strength for her legs so she will be able to stand soon.

Second feeding went well, Did I mention feedings are every two hours?Looks like it's going to be a long night. ~smile~, but she is worth it, we have been waiting quite a while for her arrival.

Tomorrow I will be, canning these tomatoes, they were gathered before the frost, and have been finishing their ripening on my dining room table.~smile!

~Something new to see~

Written especially for  our granddaughters,

 Lauren, Maddie, Abigael, and Katie,

who love our animals, specially horses,

 and for my friend Benjamin, 

who enjoys our farm animals too.

There is always so much  excitement around the farmhouse, when we have a new baby, such was the case yesterday when Mr. P. came in from feeding the animals. Says he "I have some good news, guess what we have?" He likes for me guess what is newly happening on the farm.~smile~ "A new lamb?"  By now I am grinning, "did Bessie have her calf?" Mr. P. grinning. "Yes and it is a beauty." He wanted me to see, so off we went to the pasture. We are calling the calf an it, because we don't know what gender it is, just can't get close enough yet. 

Here you see the other cows being introduced to the calf. Did you know that farm animals are very family oriented, and that they look after one another, here in the pasture, the cows are guarded by our three horses. 

Rain is being nosy!

Her curiosity got the best of her, when she saw us looking at the new calf, she just had to come over and check it out. Animals use their sense of smell a lot! They are very nosy.~smile~ Notice Bessie being very cautious.

She didn't impress the new calf a bit, it was "Savoring" all of the attention.

Rain takes off running and 

 Kicking up her heels, a sight to behold,

 She gallops off,to go tell the other horses, to which they took every thing in stride, this comes with maturity,  don'tcha know!~smile~

 She's just a teenager and acts just like one! Full of energy, always hungry, and always wants to be where the action is. ~smile~

 We watched as she galloped all over the pasture, after meeting the new calf.

She comes back to the herd, and gets between Bessie and her baby which just seemed to be fine with Bessie. I have also noticed that animals have an unwritten language of their own, they are so amazing to watch,  we could learn a few lessons from them.

After a bit, she takes off running again! A horse in motion is a beautiful site!

She finally gets over her excitement, comes to the fence for a snack from Mr P. Are you wondering why Mr P. is in his pj's? He had a stomach virus, and was not feeling very well, I was just getting over mine, Yes, I gave it to him.

After her snack she strides away, back to her business! Looking so proud, as if she was the one bearing the good news!

Round up time

Sunday was spent relaxing inside with air condition cooling. We are under a heat wave with very humid conditions. The only excitement today was the round-up of three foot loose and fancy free donkeys. 

This was right up Lucy's alley, she loves to be moving and she felt like she had the world by the tail, the horses in the other pasture didn't seem to mind  all the commotion. Just par for the course ~lol~

There is always one stubborn one in the bunch. Uncle Joe didn't want to go in the gate, and it took a little longer for him to decide he was  losing the battle. Years ago Dh would have had to saddle a horse, and round them up, but the ATV sure makes it easier, it took all of 30 minutes to get things back to normal.~smile~

When DH came in, I asked him how they got out, he said that one of the donkeys(uncle joe) lifted the lock on the gate, and that he had to tie it up. Desperate people donkeys do desperate things. ~grin~

 Animals always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, and some of us humans too.
