Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

Oh My! say it ain't so!

Written by Sue, Saturday Sept. 26, 2020 cloudy, showers temps. 70's

Have you ever wondered why appliances break down on the weekend? Yesterday as we were getting ready to run errands I stepped into the shower, no hot water, needless to say it was a quick shower, when you don't have hot water you realize just how much you use!

Since it was Friday and most people only work half days or not at all on Friday, I reconciled that it would be Monday before it was fixed! Not so with Dh, he thought he could pick the heating elements up and fix it himself, the clerk told him he could but if he had no experience he could flood the floor. After talking to daughter, she knew a plumber friend who could come and fix it.

He indeed came about 5p.m., found that both elements and thermostats needed replacing, it took about 30 mins. and, he didn't flood the floor, just a wet towel.

Whew! that was a close one, I did get my hot shower and a good nights sleep.πŸ˜ŒπŸ˜“πŸ˜‰

Most of you who visit my blog, know that I do a lot of preserving of fruits and vegetables. I use lots of lemons in baking, food preserving, and for health reasons, and they are not cheap.

Our local Food Lion put large lemons 3 for $1.00 on sale last week compared to 79 cents each.I jumped at this bargain.

Once juiced, I used a Krups electric juicer that is twenty + yrs. old and still going. It made the task so much easier.

I poured them in ice cube trays, and  froze them,

 then into foodsaver bags.

I even canned a few half/pints.

My canning season is winding down for 2020, it has been a very busy season, due to the circumstances we are now facing I felt I needed to preserve more, as I went to the grocery stores and found the shelves more empty than the week before! How about you are you finding shortages in stores?

You know me I asked why, and was told that stock wasn't coming in as it should, workers were calling in sick, they knew they could not get fired because of Covid 19, and people were hoarding. It took me weeks to find toilet paper, paper towels, and alcohol.

That's about all for today, I am planning to add a few more touches of fall to the farmhouse this weekend. Since the weather has cooled in our area I lit my new fall candle yesterday, it smelled wonderful!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Prayer March in Washington D.C. today, please join me in praying for our beloved country, leaders, and for unity! 2 Chronicles7:14

Have a great day,

Glad you were able to get a plumber out to take care of your hot water. Great idea for the lemons too! Have a great weekend :)

Whew! Sounds like y'all dodged a bullet with that water heater. When she lived in Florida, my mother was all the time juicing grapefruit and freezing it like you've shown, then putting in her drinking water. With his meds, Tom's not supposed to have grapefruit, but I wonder if he wouldn't like this. Hmmmm. Happy Saturday!

Watching the prayer march right now on TBN. Glad you got your hot water tank fixed lickity split! Hot water is something I'm so thankful for. That's a great tip and reminder on freezing lemon juice like that. Thank you! Happy weekend to you.

First, I love and want your candle. Where did you get it? The lemons are gorgeous, and I may try the ice-cube tray trick. No more squeezing at the last minute! We are pretty good in the stores here, but there are never any wipes of any kind. Also, there are purchase limits on some things. Even at Costco, where I bought two boxes of disposable gloves, and at the checkout the clerk took one out of my cart and said I could only have one!

Glad to hear you got the hot water problem fixed. That is something that is easily taken for granted!
Happy to say no shortage on the shelves around here.
Sounds like a good deal on those lemons.

Good deal. πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹

Plenty of shortages up here...we are dead end country.

Wonderful post. So glad you were able to get the hot water heater fixed in a record time! We do realize how much we take these things for granted when we are suddenly without! Boiling water on the stove to take showers, wash dishes, etc., isn't much fun. Great idea for your lemons! Very smart! We have not noticed too great of shortages here lately. Or maybe if there are, they are things I haven't needed yet. Crazy times. Praying things will settle down soon. Love your pretty candle, and that mantel picture is so peaceful and lovely. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you and yours.

The mantel is picture perfect for the season. I would have never thought about doing that with lemons. You are quite creative when it comes to food preservation. Glad you can now take a comfortable shower. Have a blessed week!

Hi Sue! I don't see any words on your post, only pictures. It looks like you've been busy. I have that same candle and love it. Happy Fall!

How wonderful that your daughter knew a plumber who would work weekends! I'm sure you appreciated that hot shower more than ever!

That was a great bargain on lemons!

I love to smell a fall candle. I have been burning an apple one, but I'm about to bring out my pumpkin-nutmeg candle in a few days. Mmmmm. Smells like fall for sure!
