Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~Has Another Week Past, Already?

Written by Sue, Wednesday, June 10, 2020~ Wow scorcher today, high 90's, heat index 98๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜Ž

Do you like surprise visits, I usually don't as I like to get the house in order, however, last Thursday evening  about 9:30 we received a call from our oldest son asking for the code to the entrance gate, he was at the gate,
Wow we were so surprised, we had not seen him in quite awhile, about two yrs. I asked him why he didn't call to let us know he was coming, his reply was, "because, I knew you would work real hard cleaning the house from top to bottom, and do a lot of cooking." What he didn't know was I had completed that task cleaning  a few weeks ago.๐Ÿ˜‰
What he did ask for was a chocolate pie, done!
Like me he enjoys coffee in the morning, after a good night's sleep, I made coffee without a coffee pot,(remember my last post)  he asked what kind of coffee maker I was looking for, he had a new one ordered in a flash, it came yesterday.

I am sorry to say he didn't get to enjoy a fresh brew while he was here, but Mr P. and I had a fresh cup this morning, oh so good. We had a very nice visit, did a lot of catching up! When families live so far away sometimes it gets lonely and hard to deal with, especially when one gets older. However dh and I will take whatever precious time we can get. ๐Ÿ’— Knowing, and trusting all of them to the Lord!
           *******************************************************************
Dh wanted some pimento cheese, today,... I found a very simple, and delicious recipe from All Recipes, love their recipes.

2 cups shredded sharp , or extra sharp, cheddar cheese, which ever you prefer.
 1 8oz. softened cream cheese,
 1/2 cup mayonnaise,
1seeded, diced jalapeรฑo pepper (optional) I used half,
1 4oz. drained pimentos,
1/4 tsp. garlic powder,
1/4 tsp. onion powder,
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper, also optional,
salt and pepper to taste.

In a mixer bowl with the paddle, mix above ingredients.. until smooth.

Voila', Delicious, my taste tester, loved it, says it was so much better than store bought. Made with loving hands. We also love toasted pimento cheese sandwiches.

Oh! I have been so busy canning and freezing fruits and vegetable, too, enjoying filling the pantry once again.I have lots of photos. I hope your week is going well. I am also doing a lot of praying for our precious country, and for the people who live here. We are so blessed to live in the USA!
Blessings to everyone.
Sue

An old fashioned percolator! I think they smell better than any other kind of coffee maker. Your pie looks so good! The grounds of your home are just gorgeous.

How wonderful to have your son arrive for a visit. His providing that percolator coffeepot will keep you remembering him and his visit. You are staying very busy at this season of the year. Oh the pimento cheese sounds heavenly. Say, do you make your own Ranch dressing as well?

I always enjoy your posts, Sue. The simple little pleasures of the day. Your statement of 'When families live so far away sometimes it gets lonely and hard to deal with, especially when one gets older.' really hit home. Hubby and I are in the same position. I'll admit that I had a little meltdown the other day missing my kids and grandchildren. But we are blessed and know that when hubby retires, we will be moving closer to them. Have a beautiful and blessed day!

What a thoughtful person, your son! I did chuckle at his comment about your cleaning and cooking. Only since moving to Alabama have I 'discovered' pimento cheese. I'll definitely be trying this recipe.... thanks!

Wow! I didn't know you could still get an old fashioned percolator! I'll bet the coffee tastes really good, and smells good too. I don't drink coffee, but I can just imagine it must be better. I wonder if you can get one with a clock on it to set it ahead so it comes on automatically in the morning? I have to set ours for 4 am for our son who lives here as he gets up to leave for work by 5 am. That pie looks luscious...and that pimento cheese sounds great. I may have to try that recipe. My hubby loves pimento cheese! I like it too, and would probably really like yours. Thank you for sharing. It's always good to hear what you are doing!

How wonderful to have a surprise visit from your son!!!
I would love a piece of that pie, my friend!
So glad you had a nice visit, and I can literally smell the coffee through the screen. : )

What a wonderful post, Sue! I enjoyed every word of it.

You would not believe how many old-fashioned percolators I have found in my cleaning out of the family homestead and also the cottage. Probably close to a dozen, in all sizes and conditions.

The pimiento cheese looks scrumptious! We often have "snacky suppers" with the local grands (their description) and I'm thinking that might go over really well!

I'm not to much on a surprise visit either but, know you both were thrilled to see your son. Our daughter and grandsons arrive tomorrow and I've been busy as a bee preparing for their visit. Have a good weekend!

How wonderful your son came for a visit. My son (only child now) lives about two blocks over...I can't imagine going two years without seeing him or my two beautiful grandchildren. I know I am blessed to have them near. I have never made pimento cheese but I am going to try your recipe:) I wonder how it would be without the garlic and onion powders??? I'm not a fan of garlic and don't care much for onion either. Two very good friends (one in KY; one in TX so don't get to see them often) make homemade pimento cheese and they use "fish oil" in theirs! Never tried that but can't imagine!!!!

I'm with you, any time visiting with loved ones is satisfying.
I think it's funny how well he knows you and remembers it, too!

That's the best kind of surprise! So glad you could visit with your son. The pie looks delicious, as does the pimiento cheese. I've never had that - is it a southern dish?
