Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~Saturday's excursion~ or let's get busy~

Written by Sue, Thursday,April 19,2011                                   cloudy, temps. 70's

Last Saturday we decided it was time to get our hanging baskets made, so off to our favorite nursery we went..... I get so excited this time of year and a trip to a plant nursery, is my kind of date. ~smile~
Mr P. loading our wave petunias
This is our potting shed, it is near the back door and makes it easy for us to pot plants. As you can see it is in need of a new paint job, and that is the project we have been working on this week.
Mr. P. loosening up the fiber roots, this is necessary if you want your plants to take off growing. When you take a plant out of the pot it is usually tight what we call root bound, the roots have to be loosened and some of the roots taken away.

It is now ready to be potted in the new pot, in our case a hanging basket.
Press the soil around the plant, and water......

The guy below is my charming gardener, I am forever thankful  for him., and I get to keep him too~wink~!!!
Here dh is attaching the hangers to the pot.... Just in case some might be wondering, I did help plant these baskets. ~grin~

Voila!! I took this photo this morning..

5 days after potting I was amazed at how fast they are growing.

Happy Gardening!!

I big thank you to all those who stopped by yesterday for Vee's Note Card party, I appreciate and enjoy your encouraging comments so much.,

Today I will be picking berries, between showers, freezing them and making jam, I enjoy cloudy, rainy days in spring because I don't feel guilty when I am inside working, when my heart wants to be outside.~smile~
Until next time,
Sue

Your pots are soo pretty. Wished you lived near me (for soo many reasons!) so that you could help this gal put together a few as well. But really what I would love to do with you is make some strawberry jam! I made some YEARS ago, and I soo enjoyed it. Don't know if I'd even know how to do it anymore though. Guess I'll just enjoy watching you do it, haha...Hope you had a good day Sue! HUGS

Your gardener does a wonderful job. Is that an outside shower next to the potting room? Because he looks like that may need to be his next stop. :D
I love petunias!

Lovely baskets you and your gardener have planted, Sue! That is one of my favorite things about spring...beautiful blooming things! We usually pot ours just before Mother's Day...so we still have a few weeks to go.

Your talk of strawberry jam is making my mouth water. I think I'll go get one of last summer's jars out for my toast tomorrow morning...

Alas, I can grow lots of things, but my Petunias end up with root rot a lot of the time. For some reason when I buy a hanging Petunia basket, not too many days after, we will get torential rain and they will get their feet too wet...... or maybe I just don't have the "Petunia growing gene" hehe. Y'all's are so pretty! It's also wonderful to see you rejoicing in your hard - working, man..... I can tell you treasure him!

Hugs,
Jenni

My husband stood beside me as I read this post. He kept saying this is awesome.
I love your hanging baskets they looks so nice.
We will be at 90 degrees starting today until Monday.
When I walked out this morning the orange blossom smell is so strong, I don't know If I have ever smelled it like this before.
I am glad you are having a nice day.
I never feel guilty on rainy days either.

Oh. I always buy mine already done. I probably could save a few dollars by doing it your way. Something to consider! They are going to be full and lush in no time. (Oh, I know why I don't do it your way...we won't be able to shop at the gardening center for another month...last threat of frost isn't until after Memorial Day...we want them to look big and lush for our limited growing season. Shoot!)

Your pots of petunias are so pretty! I usually include petunias in the pots out on my back deck... they are such a cheerful, easy blooming flower. Speaking of cheerful... that potting assistant you have there looks like a good guy to have around. :-) I love your potting shed! Is that an outdoor shower next to it? You guys have the perfect farm!! But I know how hard you work to make it that way. I've seen a days worth of your canning in the kitchen, and it just makes my head spin that you can get so much done in 24 hours.
You are such an inspiration!

You two inspired me to get my hands dirty. So, I added flowers to my pots, also!

To all who asked about the shower.. It is indeed a shower, and comes in handy when the weather is hot. Thank you for visiting and for taking the time to comment.
