Pear tree lane Farmhouse

~Welcome home~

This blog is dedicated to my dear family who live many miles away, and to you dear ladies , who have a heart for keeping the home fires burning. You, who love and cherish your family, and have a desire to create a home that says "Welcome, you are loved and cared for."

My desire is that when you leave that you will be encouraged and know that you too are loved.

~Monday Hodgepodge~

Written by Sue, Monday, January 13, 2020~~ rain, rain, rain, temps. high 70's feels like late spring.

I am certainly enjoying this January, especially the weather, I have been able to walk most days in short sleeves, (4.5 miles) sit on the porch early mornings and late evenings with Mr P. talking about the weather and of how warm it is with so much rain, happy it's not ice or snow, knowing that it will soon pass, or will it! hmmm! One never knows.I have often wondered why we talk so much about something that we can do nothing about. The birds are certainly enjoying this weather, singing up a storm, (no pun intended.)

We are not talking a lot about his upcoming knee surgery, Jan. 22, I guess because all plans have been made and all systems are on go. However we are doing a lot praying, and trusting for a  successful surgery, with a quick recovery, we are also staying close to home as much as possible until and after surgery.

As noted above, most days are cloudy, with rain, so I try and bring lots of light inside, twinkling lights add so much warmth to a home, finding these timer lights has been such a treat for me, I seem to find all kinds of nooks and crannies for them. oops, I forgot to remove the batteries. ~grin~

lights for the barn in the farm scene, guess where I placed the timer lights.

Like me, she likes to feed her chickens and gather eggs.
Timer lights in dish cabinets create such ambience, especially when the lights in the room are turned off.
The oil lamp is lit when we have our evening meals, this reminds me of days gone by, times when our ancestors wished for better lighting, I find the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Other than our new devotional, this is our first book of the year, it was a gift to us from our  dear friend, Ed, his mother is the author, a wonderful read to start the new year. I am mostly a nonfiction reader, I enjoy reading about other folks's lives, how they live, the trials and triumphs they experience, as it is with this book., a very easy read.

This is one of the main reasons I enjoy blogging, when people share of their life situations, we, the readers, become a part of their lives, whether it is through prayer, an encouraging word, corresponding via mail, or gifts. We  begin to realize that we are not in this boat (life) alone, we divert the attention off ourselves and onto others, lifetime friendships are made.Thank you for taking me along in the boat., and for your friendship.πŸ’—πŸ’•πŸ’šπŸ’›

Ed wrote a very sweet note inside,

Homemade soup is a staple around here, usually I roast a chicken, serve with vegetables,  #1 meal,  leftover chicken and stock make the best chicken noodle soup, ...here is a tip, when using pasta in soup, boil pasta, rinse in hot water, drain add only enough noodles, chicken, and  stock  for the meal , continue heating until ready to serve, the pasta doesn't soak up the liquid, place left over stock and noodles in separate containers in refrigerator, next time do the same, thus two, maybe three meals, we eat soup year round, how about you. A grilled cheese sandwich makes it even better.~wink~

Here is the my hodgepodge for Monday.
Much love,
Sue

Hi Sue~

Your little timer lights are so pretty, they really do make things feel so cozy. Your soup looks so delicious, it's really cold here so we have been eating soup at least once a week or more. Not only does it smell delicious, it keeps things toasty and warm. Enjoy your week, Sue!

Hugs and Love,
Barb

You put it so well, we are certainly not in this boat alone. So grateful for the blog buddies I've met along the way. Last year at this time I was a week out of the hospital after a hip replacement. I was very fortunate that all went well and I pray the same for your husband's surgery.

I do pray your husband's surgery is successful, Sue! The beautiful fairy lights look darling around your home. January has certainly been unusual for us as well. This past weekend found us taking our walks with no jackets required. No complaints from me either!

Do you read Linda’s blog at Linda’s Life Journal? She just had her second knee replacement last week. She shares the good and the bad and it has all been very interesting. She’s a sweet Christian gal, unless her hubby is cooking up cabbage after midnight. 😳 I think you’d enjoy reading there if you don’t already. Keeping the upcoming surgery in prayer. I know your hubby will do very well. I like the old stories, too.

I love homemade soup, and we eat it in all kinds of weather. I bet I make it at least once a week. This is a great tip! Your farmhouse scene is so sweet! What a wonderful gift this book is. I love the lights! Now you have given me some ideas for what to do with mine, though they are not on a timer.

Knee surgery! Ouch or made I should say good for you, Mr. P! - I'll be praying, too.

Lights on in the evening at dust just is so warming. But you must tell me, what like of "timer light" do you have in your dish cabinets? Are they under the shelves?

And of course your vignettes tell a story, without words.

I love all your different lighted displays. They make it look so charming and homey. I love chicken soup, and just the mention of that grilled cheese sandwich made me hungry. You have a super day, hugs, Edna B.

Prayers up for that knee surgery. How nice to be able to walk. I shoveled snow so that was some exercise. We just had the 3rd meal from a hamburger concoction as a chili then we had it as a burrito and then I added noodles and we finished it off tonight. 3 meals for the price of 1. There are ways to economize if you put your mind to it.
Happy day to you and since I'm writing this late in the day Happy Wednesday!

I loved this post and those time lights are fantastic, aren't they? No walking outside here-it is too cold and icy.
Have a wonderful week. xo Diana

I love the lights on timers . . . so cheerful and cozy for wintertime!!

Praying that Mr. P has a successful surgery. He must be a little like my dad. He does not like to talk about medical procedures before they happen! But he had both knees replaced and make out like a champ! Hoping the same for your hubby. I know that he will be getting lots of TLC!

The gift from your friend was a gift from the heart!

Love soup in the cooler months!! I can almost smell yours through the computer screen. Mmmmmm . . .

I love my twinkling lights, too, Sue. I even have electric ones that are plugged into a timer for year round sparkle. Having homemade soups in my fridge has sure helped this last week when I was under the weather.

Multitasking is a stress magnet. Many people consider multitasking to be a skill that only certain people have, but in reality, it is just the cause of an extraordinary amount of stress. Some people can better cope with stress but if you are not one of those people, do not multitask.

Good afternoon, Sue~

Thank you for stopping by for a visit the other day. I too, LOVE soup and wish I could have it for every meal but my husband and son would not be happy! lol

We love our oil lamps and use them whenever we can, it just makes meso relaxed, giving me time to stop and think about myancestors and how things used to be for them.

Please know that I will be keeping you and your husband both in my prayers for his upcoming surgery. God has His hands on both of you!

Blessings to you and yours~
Laura
