I love birthday celebrations, we recently celebrated our daughter, Susan's special day.
It was a small informal birthday dinner here at home, she loves her dad's grilled steaks, the sides were baked potatoes, creamed corn, green beans and salad,
Oops! grin~can you find the crooked candle? ~ |
of course birthday cake.
She requested "pig picking", or black midnight.
We surprised her at work with her favorite, black midnight, the layers are dark chocolate, with a caramel icing, topped with, toasted pecans, I have made this for her birthday since she was very small.
Time to open her gifts, like me she loves scented candles!
More gifts...Notice her feet, remember I said it was informal, we don't wear outdoor shoes inside, either socks or slippers~wink~

Who enjoys Soup besides me?
I love soup year round, most especially in fall and winter and on cool rainy days, Saturday fit that bill perfectly. One of our favorites is vegetable beef/sweet Italian sausage soup, with grilled cheese/cheese toast. Most of the vegetables used were vegetables we grew. I made a huge pot, enough for several meals and to share with dear daughter.
Today I will be working in the vegetable garden, getting ready to plant the garlic, weeding, winterizing by mulching.
Thank you for visiting and for your most beloved comments.
Blessings,
Sue
Recipe :Vegetable/Beef/Italian Sausage Soup
Brown/cook 1lb. organic beef, 1lb. 'sweet Italian sausage in casings, drain, and slice sausage.
saute' 1 medium onion, large minced garlic clove, in 1 Tbsp. olive oil, drain.
in large pot place 2qts. tomatoes, add beef, sausage, onions, bring to a simmer,
add veggies,...I used lima beans, corn, carrots, peas, okra, chopped cabbage, potatoes, bring to slow boil, simmer. Voila' serve with either grilled cheese or cheese toast! I prefer cheese toast on Italian bread. Yummy, warms the tummy. It is even better the next day.
note..
Any vegetables that you like will do.

Looks like a great birthday celebration!! Love your tablscape...We do not wear shoes in the house either..Something I started when my sons were young and it stuck...They take off their shoes at the door of their houses too!!Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Looks like everyone enjoyed the celebration. When my kids were growing up, we didn't wear our outdoor shoes and boots in the house either. That soup looks delicious. I downloaded the recipe so that maybe my daughter can make some. Yum! You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.
A beautiful celebration for a beautiful daughter!
And thank you for the recipe.
Sounds delicious!
We love a good soup and grilled cheese dinner this time of year.
Have a cozy afternoon, sweet friend.
Yummy dinner. We are taking a similar dinner over to cook at our sons house today. Happy Birthday to Susan! Oh my, those cakes look delicious. I love all the photos.

We sure do know who Susan looks like. YOU!
Enjoyed seeing your darling daughter’s birthday celebration! Looks as if she enjoys time at the farmhouse with so many of her favorite foods and wonderful company.
Hi Sue~
What a wonderful birthday celebration!! The cake looked delicious, and your daughter is just beautiful, reminds me of her mama. Nothing better than a delicious smelling candle, especially this time of year! Thank you for the recipe, sounds like a perfect Autumn dinner!
Hugs and Love,
Barb
Your daughter is beautiful, and looks full of joy. What a beautiful fall table you have set!! We eat soup even in the summer, too. Yours looks delicious!
Looks like a fun celebration. A belated Happy Birthday to your daughter.
The table looks lovely and the meal sounds delicious. Topped off with that delicious looking cake!!
I enjoy soup year round too.
Looks like a delicious cake for the birthday gal. Love your table setting too. And, it's getting soup weather here as well. Have a great week!
Oh my....those cakes look absolutely decadent!!!! Wish I had a piece of each right now!!!! And don't worry about the crooked candle (which I would have never noticed if you hadn't pointed it out to me!) and the barefeet! I am almost ALWAYS barefooted inside in summer and with socks only in winter:) Your home looks lovely. Glad your daughter had a nice birthday! I know she loved time "at home"!
That cake looks amazing! Your home has such a cozy, warm, inviting feel to it. -Jenn
What a lovely birthday celebration! That black midnight cake looks amazing! Is the recipe here on your blog somewhere?
Thanks too for the soup recipe. We eat a lot of soup, especially in the fall and winter. I make many different kinds and am always trying recipes for new and different ones.
Hi Sue, I loved seeing your girl celebrating her bd with you. Our oldest turns 40 tomorrow-how did that happen! We will be having a family dinner celebration on Friday because our two son-in-laws have their birthday next week~they happen to share the same birthday. Our weather is cooling down and I love soup. Usually the only kind we ever have is homemade, so we can avoid the salt. However, today I had Amy's Lentil Vegetable and I love that soup~plus the sodium isn't as high as Campbells. I never liked Lentil soup until a few years ago and love it now. We keep it on hand in case of a tornado, that way we have something to eat.
Sending big hugs your way.
Love,
Noreen
Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter!
Your home is always pleasing to the eye, even with that candle. 😉
Your soup looks and sounds absolutely delicious and thank you for sharing the recipe.
I could eat soup year round but it's not a favorite of my dear husbands sadly to say.
Always a joy to visit with you ♡

oh my gosh, those cakes look so good! I was looking at how nice you set the table for dinner and never would have noticed the candle until I finished reading the post. We don't wear shoes in the house either. Mostly socks.
You have a beautiful daughter and you fixed a delicious dinner too.
Soup is what we have a lot of around here and thanks for your recipe. My husband loves soups, he loves one pot meals always.
